Welcome to Lightwave Images owned and created by Mark Rogers. Here you will find photographs from my home on the Big Island of Hawaii and my travels. For me, photography is a passion that often verges on obsession. I’m grateful to live in Hawaii where I can indulge my pastime in beautiful and inspirational environment. A glance at my image galleries will reveal that I enjoy shooting landscapes followed closely by people, nature and my passion for surfing and waves.
Capturing what the eye sees versus what the camera is able to record is a constantly evolving challenge. I strive for a realistic look in my images but I do use image editing software in this process: Adobe Bridge, Adobe Camera RAW, Photoshop CC, with NIK, Topaz and Tony Kuyper luminosity mask filter plugins, and Photomatix Pro for HDR processing. The digital darkroom allows a photographer a degree of control and freedom never before possible. For those purists out there, even Ansel Adams who spent many hours in the darkroom said: “You don't take a photograph, you make it!”
For those gearheads out there, I currently shoot with a Nikon D7000 which is a great camera. My lenses include a Tokina 11-16mm AT-X Pro SD f/2.8 (a great lens), a Nikon 18-200mm VR (I) f/3.5-5.6, and an older manual Nikon Series E 50mm f/1.8. My other equipment includes graduated ND and circular polarizer filters, and a Benro A-269 MB tripod with a Benro B-1 head – all must-haves for landscape photography.
