This is the view overlooking Green Sands (Papakolea) beach in the Ka'u district on the southeast coast of Hawaii. The erosive force of the ocean washing into the base of Pu'u 'o Mahana cinder cone has extracted the mineral Olivine out of the cinder which has then been deposited on the sand, giving the beach its unique olive-green tint.
